THE LINKED LEARNING APPROACH:  Expanded Learning Programs preparing older youth for work and career

Preparing youth for work and career is an important role for Expanded Learning Programs serving older youth.  This presentation will expose and educate participants in the “Linked-Learning approach” to education, which is strongly supported by the California Department of Education, and how Expanded Learning Programs have the unique ability to provide services and programs integral to school’s or district’s Career Technical Education Pathway’s or Academy’s continuum.

Participant Outcomes:

  1. Receive an overview of the history and design of education in America before and during the Industrial Age and now into the Information Age and its significance; major concepts of the Linked Learning approach (i.e., Career Technical Education Pathway and Academy Continuum) and how to relate it to their ASSETs Expanded Learning Program; and best/promising practices for collaboration with the Instructional Day for Expanded Learning Program integration.
  2. Learn and discuss strategies that achieve the most positive results in collaboration and integration.
  3. Interact in various activities that model how to create support activities and programming at their sites.
