Join educational leaders and authors Harvey Silver and Cheryl Abla as they present practical instructional tools from the upcoming book, Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works (co-published by McREL, available December 2017). Aligned with McREL’s renowned Classroom Instruction That Works strategies and framework, this two-day academy will deliver an intensive learning, working, and planning session for classroom teachers, instructional coaches, teacher mentors, principals and assistant principals, and central office PD leaders.

This academy will help participants raise student achievement by focusing on crafting dynamic learning activities supported by the best research on effective instruction. Participants will gain valuable insights and practical tools for delivering engaging instruction that makes a difference in students’ learning.

Participants will learn and practice:

  • McREL’s nine categories of instructional strategies
  • Practical classroom tools and activities to increase student success
  • Tools to help students develop understanding
  • Strategies to help students extend and apply their knowledge
  • Guidance for instructional coaches and principals.

All participants will receive a personal copy of the book Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works, co-written and co-published by Thoughtful Classroom™ and McREL.

Daily onsite lunch and refreshments are also included in this two-day academy.

Support for Immigrant and Refugee Students "Train the Trainers" Workshop - January 11, 2018

In response to the voices of teachers concerned about the stress and tensions their students have expressed about their family members' immigration status, Californians Together is offering a one-day “Train the Trainers” workshop.

The training includes: 

  • Grade-span (K-2, 3-5, 6-12) classroom lesson modules addressing the social, emotional and educational needs of students worried about immigration status of their families
  • Interactive student-teacher scenarios
  • Educator Toolkit with resources to create welcoming schools, and other legal and educational resources
  • Up-to-date legal advice
  • Lunch and training materials.

PACE’s annual research and policy conference is the premier event for policymakers, researchers, advocates and local education leaders who are working to define and sustain a long-term strategy for comprehensive policy reform and continuous improvement in California’s education system.

Our 2018 full-day conference will focus on three key education policy issues: ensuring educational equity under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), rethinking policy and practice in special education, and strengthening alignment between California’s pre-K and K-12 education systems. Registered participants will learn about key policy debates and research-based best practices through conference plenaries and workshops.
