Operational: Provide ongoing technical assistance services driven by the operational needs of the field to create effective, quality before an after school programs.

Technical Assistance (TA) Site Visits: Conduct TA site visits to increase capacity and provide customized technical assistance to programs with an end result of improved program quality, outcomes and richer experience for participating stuednts.

Strategic: Conduct meetings and/or conversations with program leadership, management, and/or frontline teams focusing on organizational and programmatic practices while addressing identified needs.

Los Angeles County After School Advisory Committee: meets six times a year, Grants Managers and Program Directors should attend, others are welcome.  Foci of meeting is to update grantees on changes and information from California Department of Education-After School Program Office; updates on local, state and federal issues, resources and programs; and in-depth discussions/presentations on timely topics.

Local Learning Communities: Facilitation of defined local learning communities that bring together after school program providers from across region, business sector, rank and role focusing on the needs of the field, increasing individual learning, and learning community capacity.

Healthy Behavior Initiative: This is a four (4) year special initiative with the goal to increase the number of Healthy Behavior Learning Center (HBLC) sites in Los Angeles County.  Six grantees have been selected through an open competitive process to receive the two year training required to receive the HBLC certification.

English Learner After School Work Group: A special interest group composed of program directors, site coordinators, and other program speciaists who are interested in sharing best and promising practices in meeting the needs of EL students; as well as offering training and staff development in this area.  This work group is a collaboration of ASTAU and Alliance for a Better Community.

After School Employer Network: A peer-based network of after school programs in Los Angeles County through which program providers can connect about workforce related issues, challenges, and opportunities.  This network is a collaboration of ASTAU and South Bay Center for Community Development.

Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program: Experienced Program Directors and Site Coordinators are matched with less experienced peers.  The goal of the project is to provide ongoing support and coaching to novice Program Directors and Site Coordinators in order to help them develop the competencies necessary to manage a quality after school program.

Peer Reviewer Program: Experienced Program Directors and Site Coordinators are offered an opportunity to further develop their program evaluation skills; provide real time TA to others in the field while building/strengthening their own managerial capacity.

Provide ongoing communications (i.e., timely email announcements and updates) as well as current links to information on funding opportunities, research, resources, legislation, and local training opportunities to support high quality programs.

Provide local and regional learning opportunities on a variety of relevant topics: Targeted audiences include for grants managers, program directors, site coordinators, front line staff and others.  Such learning opportunities are presented using interactive activities to build skills and knowledge based on specific, well-defined learning objectives.  Trainings are available in three different formats: 1. standard/general; 2. on-demand; and 3. customized.
